In a redesign that goes way beyond just the layout, SBSC members are going to be able to pay online with either a credit, debit, or EFT. In addition, the new site will take on meet volunteer sign-ups, fundraising, email communication, and eventually meet event sign-ups. Stay tuned for a more thorough description of the changes. For the second consecutive year, SBSC achieves Gold Medal Status in the USA Swimming Club Excellence program. Along with the status, SBSC is now eligible to apply for another grant from the program at its highest level. Last year, SBSC was awarded just under $10,000 that is currently being used to purchase strength training equipment for the team. The criteria for being awarded Gold Medal status included a number of areas including team administrative responsibilities, participation in USA Swimming governance, and athlete performance in the 2008-2009 swim years. A bonus to the award will be received this year for achieving level 3 in the USA Swimming club recognition program.
28 male and 28 female athletes have been invited by USA Swimming to take part in the 2010 Western Zone Select Camp being held in May. The Zone Camp, the second level of USA Swimming’s camp program behind the National Select Camp, seeks to identify emerging young athletes in each Zone and offer them a unique motivational and educational experience. One male and one female from the western zone are selected from each event. The remainder of the roster is based on IMX scores. SBSC's Emily Swindle was selected for this years camp based on her 200 meter butterfly performance. Congratulations Emily!!
The gold medal grant awarded to SBSC will be used in it's entirety to purchase equipment for our new strength training program. Many of our swimmers have felt the need to seek outside strength training guidance due to the lack of up to date equipment offered by the team. The process has begun to secure the needed equipment for our Senior and National practice groups. The grant will give us a great start in obtaining the equipment we need for a comprehensive strength training program specifically geared toward swimming power and core strength. The $10,000.00 from USA swimming provides about 2/3 of the equipment the team will need for a full scale program. Additional equipment will consist of a full array of medicine balls, jump ropes, balance equipment, light hand weights and kettle bells. Providing this program to our athletes will bring the cost of swimming down for our families as they won't have to seek outside sources of training. If anyone wishes to contribute to this equipment only fund, please contact Coach John to discuss how you can help.
New suits are going away!! Check out the new blocks!!
FINA began allowing the new Omega branded starting block in competition this summer at the World Championships in Rome. Not to be left behind, the new blocks were used at the US Open and US Junior Championships in Federal Way this summer. The block has been modified with an adjustable "track" type of triangle that the swimmer can use to gain extra power at the start from their back foot. The triangle has 5 different distance settings that it can be locked into depending on the desire of the swimmer. The swimmers(as they always do) adapted quickly to the new platform. The block was ready to go for last summer in Beijing, but it was not introduced in time for every federation to be able to have one to learn on prior to the games. FINA decided to stall its implementation until this summers World Championships.

This years meet will be held Right here in Socal. Southern California Swimming has secured the new LaMirada Splash Aquatics Center as the venue for this event due to scheduling conflicts with the facilities in Mexico.
SBSC historically places 3-5 swimmers on this All-Star Team and we hope to continue that tradition.

Jeff Farrell Breaks World Record!!!!!
50 freestyle record falls in Farrell's Home Meet/Home Pool!! Jeff had no plans to break this one; it was just the right swim at the right time.
